Reclaimed Wood Products That Outperform New Lumber
Every board, beam, and plank in our inventory has been rescued from demolition, carefully processed, and graded for quality. Old-growth timber delivers tighter grain, greater density, and a story that new wood simply cannot match.

Find the Right Reclaimed Material
From structural framing to decorative accents, our inventory covers every phase of residential and commercial construction.
Reclaimed Lumber
Dimensional boards and planks salvaged from historic Minnesota structures. Oak, pine, Douglas fir, cedar, and rare species in standard framing sizes.
Beams & Timbers
Massive hand-hewn and sawn beams reclaimed from barns, warehouses, and industrial buildings. Unmatched character and structural integrity for modern builds.
Reclaimed Flooring
Tongue-and-groove hardwood flooring milled from antique timber. Heart pine, white oak, maple, and walnut with patina no factory can replicate.
Siding & Paneling
Weathered barn wood, shiplap, and tongue-and-groove paneling for exterior siding and interior accent walls. Authentic texture and color that only time creates.
Hardware & Accessories
Vintage hardware, hand-forged nails, reclaimed brackets, and premium wood finishing products. Everything you need to complete your reclaimed wood project.
Select New Lumber
When your project calls for new wood, we source FSC-certified and sustainably managed lumber that complements our reclaimed inventory. Same eco values, fresh cut.
Understanding Reclaimed Wood Grades
We grade all reclaimed wood into four tiers based on visual appearance, structural integrity, and character level. Every grade is de-nailed and metal-detected. The difference is cosmetic, not structural.
Premium
$8 - $15+ per BF
Minimal character marks, tight grain with no open knots or wane. Both faces are clean and suitable for fine furniture and visible surfaces. Boards are straight, flat, and free of structural defects.
Fine furniture, visible cabinetry, high-end interior trim, feature shelving
Character
$5 - $10 per BF
Moderate nail holes, minor checking, and beautiful patina. Structurally sound with tight knots permitted. This is our most popular grade because it balances reclaimed character with a clean, usable surface.
Accent walls, flooring, general construction, rustic furniture, most residential projects
Rustic
$3 - $7 per BF
Heavy character including open knots, wane edges, worm holes, and deep checking. Maximum barn aesthetic and visual drama. Structurally adequate for non-load-bearing applications.
Statement pieces, barn-style walls, garden structures, art installations, decorative paneling
Utility
$2 - $5 per BF
Structural-use boards intended for hidden applications. May have cosmetic defects but are structurally sound. Maximum value for projects where the wood will not be visible.
Structural framing, blocking, hidden supports, concrete formwork, shop fixtures
Prices shown are approximate ranges and vary by species, dimensions, and current inventory levels. Premium species (heart pine, chestnut, walnut) command higher prices across all grades. Request a detailed quote for your specific requirements.

Project Planning Guide
Estimate how much material your project requires. Follow these steps and formulas to calculate board feet, square footage, and the right waste factor for your installation type.
Measure Your Space
Measure the length and width of the area in feet. For walls, measure height and width. For irregularly shaped rooms, break the area into rectangles and add them together. Subtract openings (windows, doors) from wall calculations.
Determine Coverage Area
Multiply length by width to get square footage. For flooring, this is your base coverage number. For walls, multiply height by width for each wall and add together.
Add Waste Factor
Add 10% for straight horizontal or vertical installations. Add 15% for walls with many cuts around outlets and windows. Add 20% for diagonal, herringbone, or chevron patterns. Always keep spare material for future repairs.
Convert to Board Feet
For dimensional lumber, one board foot equals a piece 1 inch thick, 12 inches wide, and 12 inches long. Formula: (Thickness in inches x Width in inches x Length in feet) / 12 = Board Feet per piece. Multiply by the number of pieces needed.
Flooring Calculation Example
Room: 14 ft x 20 ft = 280 sq ft. Add 10% waste = 280 x 1.10 = 308 sq ft of flooring needed. At 3/4" T&G, this equals approximately 308 board feet of material.
Accent Wall Calculation Example
Wall: 8 ft tall x 14 ft wide = 112 sq ft. Subtract one 3x5 ft window = 112 - 15 = 97 sq ft. Add 15% waste for cuts around window = 97 x 1.15 = 112 sq ft of siding needed.
Beam Calculation Example
Ceiling span: 16 linear feet. Beam size: 8x10. Board feet per linear foot = (8 x 10) / 12 = 6.67 BF/ft. Total: 16 x 6.67 = 107 board feet. Weight estimate for Douglas fir: 16 ft x 22 lbs/ft = 352 lbs.

Send Dimensions for a QuoteOld-Growth Timber Outperforms Modern Lumber in Every Measurable Way
Lumber harvested from old-growth forests 80 to 150 years ago grew slowly under dense canopy conditions. That slow growth produced tighter growth rings, denser fiber structure, and natural resistance to warping, cupping, and splitting that today's plantation-grown softwoods cannot achieve.
When you choose reclaimed lumber from Lumber Minneapolis, you get wood that has already survived decades of structural service. It has dried naturally over time, stabilizing to an equilibrium moisture content that eliminates the shrinkage problems common with kiln-dried new lumber.
Tighter Grain, Greater Strength
Old-growth reclaimed lumber averages 12-20 growth rings per inch compared to 3-6 in modern plantation lumber. More rings means higher density, better nail retention, and superior load-bearing capacity.
Naturally Seasoned
After 50-100+ years in a building, reclaimed lumber has dried slowly and completely. No kiln stress fractures, no residual moisture surprises. It machines cleaner and stays flat.
Species You Can't Buy New
Heart pine, American chestnut, old-growth Douglas fir, and virgin white oak are commercially extinct in new lumber. The only source is reclaimed.
Carbon-Negative Material
Using reclaimed wood prevents landfill methane emissions and avoids the carbon cost of harvesting, transporting, and milling new trees. It is one of the only truly carbon-negative building materials available.

Every Purchase Funds Conservation
We track the environmental savings of every order. When you buy reclaimed, here is what our collective customers have accomplished.
through our reclaimed lumber operations
from entering the atmosphere each year
rescued from demolition sites since founding
from landfills through our reclamation process
Forest Preservation
Every board foot of reclaimed lumber eliminates the need to harvest a living tree. Over the past decade, our operations have preserved the equivalent of 480 acres of standing forest — enough to cover nearly 365 football fields.
Landfill Diversion
Construction and demolition debris accounts for 25-30% of all landfill waste in the United States. Our salvage operations divert an average of 600 tons of wood per year from Twin Cities area landfills.
Carbon Sequestration
Wood that decomposes in landfills releases methane — a greenhouse gas 28 times more potent than CO₂. By keeping reclaimed wood in active service, we lock that stored carbon in place for another generation of use.
